Who I Am

Nature Through Expert Eyes

I've spent the last 16 years learning how Rāzna National Park actually works. Not just reading about it — really understanding the wetlands, the bird populations, the seasonal patterns. My Master's in Environmental Science from the University of Latvia gave me the framework, but the real education came from field work since 2012.

At cabbageworks Ltd, I translate that experience into something useful. There's too much generic information about nature recreation out there. My job is to give people accurate, specific guidance about where to go, what to expect, and how to be responsible visitors. When you're reading about Rāzna's bird watching platforms or picnic spots, you're getting information from someone who's actually been there, multiple times, through different seasons.

I'm convinced that well-informed visitors become better stewards. That's what drives my writing — making expert knowledge accessible without dumbing it down.

Expertise

What I Know Best

Rāzna's Bird Populations

I've spent years observing and documenting the species that call Rāzna home. From migratory patterns to seasonal variations, I know which birds you'll see in spring, which platforms offer the best viewing, and how to identify species with confidence. This isn't theoretical — it's based on years of field observation and monitoring.

Lakeside Recreation & Conservation

There's a real balance between letting people enjoy Rāzna and protecting what makes it special. I understand how recreational access affects ecosystems, where visitors can go without causing damage, and how to plan picnics and outings responsibly. My work with sustainable tourism guidelines informs everything I write about responsible recreation.

Wetland Ecology

Rāzna's wetlands aren't just pretty — they're complex ecosystems. I understand the hydrology, the vegetation patterns, how water levels shift seasonally, and why certain areas support specific wildlife. When I describe a picnic spot or bird watching platform, you're getting context grounded in real ecological knowledge.

Accessible Expertise

Scientific knowledge shouldn't stay locked in academic papers. I'm committed to explaining Rāzna's ecosystems, bird species, and conservation challenges in ways that make sense to outdoor enthusiasts, families, and casual visitors — without oversimplifying the reality of how these systems actually work.

Story

How This Started

Growing up in Limbaži district, I spent a lot of time exploring the coastal wetlands. My parents didn't plan it as educational — I was just a kid who liked being outside. But those early experiences shaped everything. I'd notice the birds, the way the water moved, how things changed with the seasons. That curiosity never went away.

By the time I got to university, it was clear I wanted to understand these ecosystems properly. I chose the University of Latvia for my degree in Environmental Science, and my thesis work on migratory bird populations became my gateway to Rāzna. What started as academic research turned into something deeper — a genuine commitment to understanding and protecting these spaces.

The transition to content creation wasn't about leaving fieldwork behind. It's about extending the reach of what I've learned. There are only so many people I can guide through Rāzna in person, but I can reach thousands through writing. And I take that responsibility seriously. Every article is grounded in actual experience and evidence, not just information assembled from other sources.

When I'm not writing, I'm maintaining observation records from the platforms throughout Rāzna. These records contribute to long-term ecological monitoring efforts — it's how I stay connected to the actual work while developing content.
